Weddings in Malibu

Beautiful sites, narrow roads, close neighbors.

Malibu weddings happen at a mix of event venues, oceanview estates on the bluffs, ranches up the canyons, and private homes rented for the day. The views are the reason couples choose Malibu. The logistics are what decide whether the day runs smoothly, and most of them come down to roads, wind and neighbors.

PCH and the canyon roads

Pacific Coast Highway is the main way in and out, and weekend beach traffic can slow it down for miles. Canyon venues are reached by winding two-lane roads, and many estates have steep, narrow driveways with little room for vendor vehicles. We plan our arrival with extra margin, ask your coordinator about the vendor load-in route and where we can park, and set up before guests start arriving by shuttle. If your venue uses shuttles for guests, that usually means vendor parking on site is tight, so we confirm it in advance.

Wind on the bluffs

Clifftop lawns catch the ocean breeze, and it tends to build in the afternoon, right around ceremony time. Wind noise and surf make an unmiked officiant hard to hear past the first few rows. We put a lavalier on the officiant, keep a separate mic for vows and readings, and place ceremony speakers close to the guests rather than out at the edge of the view. In fall, Santa Ana winds can be strong and dry, so ask your venue about its plan for windy or red flag days.

Noise limits are often set by the neighbors

Many Malibu properties sit close to homes, and sound carries along the coast and up the canyons. Venues and estate owners often set their own music end times, volume limits or rules about where speakers can face, and private residences may need a City of Malibu special event permit. Confirm with your venue what the end time is, whether it applies outdoors or indoors, and whether there is a volume limit. We aim speakers toward the dance floor and away from property lines, which keeps the party full without testing anyone's patience.

Golden hour and cool nights

West facing sites get a long sunset, and the temperature drops quickly once the sun is gone. Plan the ceremony and photos around the light, then give guests a warm place to land for dinner. Our dance floor lighting gives the reception a focal point after dark, when string lights alone can leave a lawn dim.

Booths

Catch the sunset, not a line.

Our roaming attendant moves from the bluff to the dance floor, so guests get their photos and messages without leaving the view behind.

FAQ

Malibu questions.

Is there a travel fee for Malibu?

No. Travel is included within 75 miles of Los Angeles, and Malibu is well inside that.

Our venue has a strict music cutoff. Can you work with it?

Yes. Send us the venue's end time and any volume rules, and we build the timeline backward from them so the dance floor gets its full share of the night.

Can you set up at a private estate with a steep driveway?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the driveway, parking and the walk from the unloading spot at the planning call, and we will bring gear that suits the site.

Will guests hear the vows in the wind?

That is what the officiant lavalier and a separate vow mic are for. We place ceremony speakers for the wind on the day.
