Weddings in OC
The ocean is the backdrop. It is also the loudest guest.
Orange County weddings tend to fall into two groups: oceanfront resorts and clubs along the coast from Huntington Beach to San Clemente, and ranches, barns, golf clubs and estates inland. The coast is what most couples picture, and it is where the sound planning matters most.
Ceremonies near the water
Surf and onshore breeze swallow an unmiked officiant within a few rows. We put a lavalier mic on the officiant, a separate mic for readers and vows, and place speakers so the sound carries toward guests instead of out to sea. On a cliffside lawn or terrace, that is the difference between hearing your vows and watching them.
Public beaches have their own rules
A ceremony on a public beach is a different situation from a resort lawn above it. Laguna Beach, for example, issues wedding permits for its beaches and parks that do not allow amplified sound at all, and Newport Beach requires a separate permit for outdoor amplified sound. Rules change and differ by city, so confirm with the city and your venue before you plan speakers on the sand. Often the simplest answer is a short, acoustic beach ceremony followed by full sound at the reception venue.
Marine layer and cool evenings
Late spring and early summer often bring gray mornings along the coast, and evenings by the water get cool once the sun drops. Plan for guests heading indoors or toward heaters sooner than you think. With separate systems for cocktail hour and reception, the music moves with them and nobody stands around while gear gets shuffled.
Inland OC
Canyon ranches and barn venues have more room and fewer neighbors, but power can be limited and outdoor music end times still vary by property. Confirm power locations and your music cutoff with your venue, and we will plan around both.
Booths
A booth that follows the sunset.
Our roaming booth attendant can catch guests on the terrace at golden hour, then move inside with the party. No line, no backdrop wall.
FAQ
Orange County questions.
Do you charge travel for Orange County?
Usually not. Travel is included within 75 miles of Los Angeles, which covers most of Orange County. Past 75 miles, travel is $2 per mile one way, counted from Los Angeles to your venue and shown on your quote.
Can you provide sound for a beach ceremony?
Where it is allowed, yes. Some cities do not allow amplified sound under a beach wedding permit, so check your permit first. If speakers are not allowed, we can run the reception and cocktail hour and keep the ceremony simple.
Will our guests hear the vows over the ocean?
That is what the officiant lavalier and a separate vow mic are for. We set speaker placement for the wind and the layout on the day.
Do you need power at the ceremony site?
It helps, but for spots far from an outlet we bring battery powered speakers. Let us know the layout at the planning call.
