Weddings in San Diego
Know who owns the ground you are standing on.
San Diego weddings spread across hotel lawns on the bay, resorts around Mission Bay and Coronado, cliffside spots in La Jolla, garden courtyards in Balboa Park, and ranches and wineries inland toward Escondido and Ramona. The surprise for many couples is how much the sound plan depends on which agency manages the site.
Public parks and beaches
The City of San Diego issues park use permits for weddings in its parks and on its beaches, and its rules say electronic amplification powered by a generator is not allowed without a permit. Park rangers, police and lifeguards can shut down amplified sound in city parks. Sites managed by the Port of San Diego, the county or the National Park Service each have their own rules, and Cabrillo National Monument does not allow amplified music or a public address system at all. Ask for the sound rules in writing when you apply, and share them with us before the planning call.
Balboa Park
Balboa Park has several permitted ceremony sites, from small gardens to larger courtyards, and the rules vary by site. Some, like the Casa del Prado patio, do not allow a PA system or amplified music. If your ceremony is in the park and your reception is at a hotel or club nearby, we can keep the ceremony simple where required and bring full sound to the reception.
The marine layer
May and June often bring gray, cool mornings and evenings near the coast, the local "May Gray" and "June Gloom." It can burn off by midday or hang around all day. For bay and beach venues, plan a warm layer for guests and a covered spot for the cocktail hour, and let us know where the party moves if the evening turns chilly. Separate sound systems for each space mean the music is already there when guests arrive.
Inland North County
Ranch and winery venues east of the coast run warmer in summer and cool off after dark, and many sit on large properties where the ceremony spot is far from power. We bring battery powered speakers for those sites and confirm your outdoor music end time with the venue before we build the timeline.
Booths
Bring the booth to the bay.
A roaming attendant works the terrace, the lawn and the dance floor, so guests never leave the view to stand in a line.
FAQ
San Diego questions.
How much is travel to San Diego?
Travel is included within 75 miles of Los Angeles. San Diego is past that, so travel is $2 per mile one way, counted from Los Angeles for the whole distance. Downtown San Diego is about 120 driving miles from Los Angeles, which works out to about $240. North County venues are closer. Your quote shows the exact amount for your venue address.
Can we have speakers for a beach ceremony in San Diego?
It depends on who manages the beach and what your permit allows. City beaches require a park use permit, and amplified sound needs to be part of it. Some federal sites do not allow amplified sound at all. Check your permit first, and we will plan around it.
Our ceremony and reception are at different sites. Can you cover both?
Yes. The Full Wedding includes three sound systems, so the ceremony can be set while the reception room is ready and waiting. Tell us the drive time between sites at the planning call.
Do you need power at the ceremony?
Not always. We bring battery powered speakers for lawns, gardens and cliffside spots without an outlet nearby.
